UberMedia applications restored by Twitter

Reportedly, the applications used by BlackBerry and Android phone users, namely UberTwitter, now UberSocial and Twidroyd, for breaching copyright, as per Twitter.

Both the applications belong to UberMedia and it is estimated that there are millions of users, who were affected by the suspension of the applications by Twitter on Friday.

"These violations include, but aren't limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users' tweets in order to make money," said Twitter spokesperson.

UberMedia renames applications
UberMedia had recently named its applications after Twitter, after users had requested for the same in a three-week-ago poll that the company had carried out.

As soon as the UberTwitter became UberSocial, it was reinstated by Twitter.

Confirming the news, a press release from the micro-blogging website stated, “We've given the developers of twidroyd and UberSocial for BlackBerry access to the Twitter API again. Our initial review indicates that steps have been taken to remedy the violations for these applications."

The ban had come as a surprise to UberMedia, as it had got no indication of copyright infringement by Twitter.

Speculations on what went wrong
As no major reason has been provided by Twitter on banning the two applications, experts had speculated that there could be more than just the copyright issue, and it has been found that about 20 percent of all tweets were carried out through UberSocial and Twidroyd.

Mark Suster, a prominent venture capitalist and angel investor said, “As a long-time user of UberTwitter I find this kind of platform behavior offensive. Not as a VC or as somebody who loves Twitter & always has.”

As soon as the applications were restored, users flooded the network and it caused jamming of the servers.

UberMedia thanked all its users for their loyalty and support, through its Twitter page.
