US accuses China and Russia of high-tech data thefts

United States has accused China and Russia for stealing its high-tech data to benefit their economies. US cyber security experts have said that US government needs to confront these two countries openly to combat cybercrime.

According to the experts, solving this problem is not easy as this has been a consistent threat to United States' economic security. These allegations are considered as the most openly made statement on an issue on which US has remained silent earlier.

In a report, US intelligent agencies said, “The governments of China and Russia will remain aggressive and capable collectors of sensitive U.S. economic information and technologies, particularly in cyberspace.”

A US counter intelligent officer, Robert Bryant said that United States is finally making a move on the countries which are stealing its technology and data. Robert said that it is not right if the allied countries are building their economy on US data and this problem should be eradicated soon.

Robert Bryant said, “If we build their economies on our information, that's not right. We want to basically point out what the issue is. We want to be worried and we want to be careful, but we also want there to be an awareness and, frankly, drive that toward solutions where we work together to bring this under control.”

This report has come because of the efforts put by the US officials to highlight the cyber attacks happening in the country. A cyber security expert, James Lewis said that this action could have been done earlier but US pretended that it is not happening.

James Lewis said, “We should have done this years ago. We've pretended it hasn't been happening, but that's not the case. I hope this is the first in a series of documents that lays out the huge problem the U.S. is facing.”

Behind the attacks

The report does not signify how many cyber attacks are government sponsored but, the US has pointed Russian and Chinese intelligence services along with the corporations based in these regions and are associated with the government.

The report states that the cyber attackers may be having the access to American institutions to steal United States economic and technology information.
