In order to help the people, who are trying to contact their near and dear ones in Japan, many companies have waived off long-distance charges for calls and texts to Japan.

Some of the renowned companies offering free calls and texts to Japan include Verizon, AT&T and Time Warner. The option is especially free for the residential and pre-paid wireless customers.

Verizon has extended the date of the free offer, for prepaid customers and wireless users to April 10. Till Sunday, users can send text and multimedia messages to Japan, without any charge.

As per the information provided by a news release, residential landlines will also be free of cost during this span.

Evidence from Verizon, received by online trader Wirefly has created a rumor that HTC's ThunderBolt, the first smartphone to perform on the LTE network of Verizon Wireless will be launched on Thursday.

According to Wirefly, the pre-orders for the device will be taken from 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday, while the shipments are all set to commence on Thursday.

Though complete specifications and other information related to ThunderBolt have been published on the site of Wirefly, the special discounted price of the device offered by the retailer is yet to be disclosed.

To date, all the smartphone users of Verizon wireless are enjoying an unlimited data plan for $30. But of late, Verizon's Chief Financial Officer, Fran Shammo indicated that such unlimited data plans will soon be shelved.

The new data plans will come into effect from mid summer, and will be ‘data usage’ based plans.

It means, the more you stream video or download music on your phone, the more you pay. Sadly, this new data usage plan will coincide with the iPhone 5’s probable launch date.
