Anonymous has attacked the websites of many government and non government institutions in the last couple of months and acquired huge amount of confidential data.

The attack was the large and sophisticated attack has put the sensitive data at the risk of exposure. New York Times broke the report of hacking on Saturday and said that the scope of hacking is still unknown.

The newspaper also said that because IMF helps the countries round the globe during financial crises, it has the confidential information about the fiscal condition of several countries.

The newspaper said that the attack took place over the period of several months, but IMF disclosed it in the meeting of its staff and board of directors.
