Intel has detected a design defect in its Sandy Bridge processors, which would cost it around $300 million, say reports.

With the recall of the Cougar Point chipsets, there would be a delay in introducing what everybody has been anticipating as the next-generation computers and Apple may be affected the most, due to the hitch up in the launch of the processor.

“One positive is that the issue was caught early in Sandy Bridge's release, meaning that only a fraction of the estimated eight million "Cougar Point" (the code name) chipsets in manufacturers hands have actually made it to consumers,” informed an industry analyst.
